i just came back from a week in brazil. the u.s. would have just grown faster than brazil in the most recent quarter, 2.4%. i raise this because you go down there and talk to business people about why it is. we could have made little more taxes here and a little more regulation there and cost of labor there and a fair amount of uncertainty about what we'll do in the future. they have taken the steam out of it. this is a fragile and requires government to facilitate rather than layer cost and uncertainty on top of it. with that uncertainty and a very aggressive regulatory agenda which has caused uncertainty around health care costs. you add that up and you have a period in which american business is operating under a huge weight. government rates the conditions where businesses and scientists can have the freedom to get the work done. that is an important thing to think about. government can create the conditions under which the cost is listed to allow businesses to innovate. >> if i could follow up. i thought this was amazing. u.s.

we've seen more growth in mexico and brazil in terms of subgrowth than the u.s. has seen over the last five years. so what it does provide for us is it provides kind of more supercharged growth. our international business, as good as our domestic business is, our international business has been growing much more substantially over the last couple of years. just to give you a sense, when i started it, discovery, our whole company was making $700 million. and international was about $100 million. this year we'll make more in our international business than our whole company five and a half years ago. so we do see international. and that includes asia, and it includes fast growing markets like russia and turkey as well as western europe and latin america. but we think that that is a key differentiator for us as a company, that we have so many great platforms around the world in such geographic diverse tiff. and our international margins are close to 50%, because we use the content from discovery, animal planet, science, i.d., around the world. >> david, simon hobbs
